I love the city, in Manchester in particular
there are many buildings that I find visually interesting. As a student who is
from the other side of the world, I feel like every time I go to Manchester is
like going on an adventure. I am never bored by the buildings and always find
new things to be inspired by. When I attended the
open day I was impressed by the facilities and resources including the
studios and workshops at MSA.
My own review on a recent building that I have
been to is Preston market. This may seem like an unusual choice, however, after
living in Preston for 5 years I have always felt that the Preston market has
been neglected over the years which makes it very unappealing. As a teenager, I would rather shop from a
super market than there, and I think it is such a shame as most of the shops
inside the market are quite good quality and are run by local people.
Therefore, if I have to ability and opportunity, I would love to regenerate
this space and the area around and to make the best possible use of it.
My favourite building is one of the most
popular casinos in Asia, the Grand Lisboa in Macau, China. I love the idea of
how the architect, Dennis Lau, has designed such a modern building within the
traditional Chinese Feng Shui culture. The building can be separated into two
parts, the hotel and the casino. The shape of the hotel is based on a torch,
symbolising the luck that could be spread in the same way as the light is. This
structure sits on top of a decorative orb shaped base where the casino is
housed.
The work of architecture which I
would like to experience in person is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. I would love
to stand in the highest building in the world, feeling like the whole world is
under my feet. It would be amazing to create a piece of art recording what is
right in front of me and the feelings I have experienced in that moment.
